I create one of a kind jewelry which is a personal thrill each time
I sit down to the torch. The jewelry is welded, forged, "flowed",
pierced and carved, and contains usually the 3 metals of bronze, copper
and silver.
I was initially trained in metal work by a German Master. The specific
technique is a nontraditional jewelry technique known within the jewelry
clan as "flowing" and is a puddle - welding process using
a tiny number 4 torch and oxygen and acetylene flame of 6000 degrees.
using this method I can actually build or sculpt three dimensional form
from molten metal, drip by drip. the products of this process are often
assumed by the untrained eye to have been formed by lost wax and casting.
They are not, however.
I also fabricate by piercing, carving and forging an array of organic
shapes and forms such as leaves, animals, and geometric forms. these
I make up as individual units in bronze, copper, and silver. I then
compose richly complex organic designs using all three metals in one
piece. For some of the leaves I have personally employed tool and die
reproductive techniques in order to ultimately keep the labor required
on a piece cost effective without sacrifice of the crispness of handmade
detail.
From my own judgment and the outpouring of public feedback, I would
say the strength of my works appeal lies in the tricolor interest and
the very feminine flow of the compositions. I am very much inspired
by elements in nature-even chosing to torch outdoors with a view of
the forest. I also, at times, incorporate green patina treatment on
some pieces to organic qualities. The pieces are generally big, bold
and always one of a kind. Treated with a metal-bonding sealant, they
do retain their maintenance-free brillance for years to come.
